Keep Me Accountable - Day 2

It's a new day and I'm juggling the creation of this story with reading a new book by Diann Mills, Attracted to Fire. Review will come in a couple of weeks, but it's hard to write when a book has captured your attention. However, another book has the other half of my attention and that's my historical.

I love to read historical novels. Its the feeling of stepping into another world that draws me. Another thing that draws me is a strong, plausible romance. The research for a different time period is quite daunting, however. My story is set in 1903. Right on the cusp of a new century.

There isn't enough time in the day to research and to write, so I find I must divide my time accordingly. Yet, research isn't limited to stories set one hundred years ago. I've found research is important in contemporary novels. If I only "wrote what I know" I wouldn't be writing very much. What I know tends to get boring pretty fast, so, I'm always learning something new. What about you?

Christy--thanks again for posting this.
My word goal: 70K
My word count: 26427 (I've been working on this book since Jan off and on)
My word count today 360.

It's hard to divide the time. I remember an author (I think it was Karen White) saying she just keeps writing and researches as she goes if she needs to know something.

You are doing a great job! I wish I could get my act together so that I could finish my own project. You are my inspiration!
Blessings, Joanne

Hmmm...well, I completed a mini-storyboard last night for the third book in my planned series. I needed to do this so that I can effectively write a series proposal that was requested by an editor.

It's frustrating to have to stop and do these things that feel like backtracking when I really need to finish revising the completed first story in the series. Like you, Christy, I'm having to divide my time which is not only annoying but feels counterproductive. Still, I keep reminding myself- I am making progress, even if it's not the progress I want to be focusing on.

Lindy- you keep pushing. You're doing great. Anytime you need me to read pages for you just send them my way.

Christy, I'm the same way, if I'm relegated to just writing what I know, it's a sure fire drawer-filler.

By the way, I'm returning the favor. :) I so appreciate the award you gave me. Not only was I delighted, but I appreciated visiting and learning about your blog!

So I have an award for you, too! You can visit my blog to learn more about it! http://marjilaine.blogspot.com/2011/10/yummy-new-blog-award.html

Lindi, it's hard to write and research later or as you go along, but I'm finding if I hit something I'm not sure about, I'm just underlining it to know I need to double check it later. Great job on your progress!!

Joanne - keep plugging at it! Little by little. Keep the story in your mind at all times and jot things down as they come to you. Let me know how you are doing. You can finish this. It may take years, but when you finally write THE END, you will be so glad. I speak from experience! But I'm tired of my projects taking years to complete!

Dianna, that's awesome you completed the story board. I'm going to look into buying materials to do the same thing. This is progress! Way 2 Go!!!

Does it count if I'm doing the final finishing flesh out of a completed manuscript? If that's the case, count me in on the writing challenge. I'm at 78,092/80,000.

Finalist!

I've always enjoyed reading historical novels. As a child I actually imagined living in the mid 1800s. My grandmother fed my imaginatio...
