Burt's Pumpkin Farm

Image
Beyond Dawsonville Georgia located at 4801 Highway 52 is a place I know has become a tradition for many families. Burt's Pumpkin Farm is a place my family has gone for years, every year as the seasons turn from summer to fall. Here are some photos.

Note this very informative and important message from Management at Burt's Pumpkin Farm:

Downey tries to push the pumpkin!

Gotta get you some deee-licious boiled peanuts!

My niece Savannah with all those pumpkins!

My nephew Landon, Downey in the background, climbing and sitting on the pumpkins. As you can tell, the Smith's don't adhere to directions very well ;)

Landon and his dad Blake waiting in the looong line for the Hay ride! And we always have to get a slushie.

Downey, Savannah & Landon's Nana musing over the kids.

More pics to come....

Home Another Way by Christa Parrish

Image
Christy here: I'm way behind on my reviews, but I am half way through this book. The author's voice is definite. I love how she uses first person point of view for the main character, but uses third person for the supporting characters. That alone adds a depth I hadn't expected.

Most of the CBA books I read are about Christians. They aren't promiscuous. The don't swear. They're nice to people. While I enjoy these books, the characters are too perfect.

If you're looking for an alternative - and don't misunderstand me - Home Another Way implies the main character does certain things but those explicit actions are not seen. The main character, Sarah, is what the book description below says. She's living life fast and hard. She isn't nice to the small town folks she's meeting. She's there for the money and that's it. She believes her father killed her mother, but everyone in town loves her father. I guess I'd be irritable too. This bo…

Siri Mitchell

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Siri Mitchell graduated from the University of Washington with a business degree and worked in various levels of government. As a military spouse, she has lived all over the world, including in Paris and Tokyo. Siri enjoys observing and learning from different cultures. She is fluent in French and loves sushi.

But she is also a member of a strange breed of people called novelists. When they’re listening to a sermon and taking notes, chances are, they’ve just had a great idea for a plot or a dialogue. If they nod in response to a really profound statement, they’re probably thinking, “Yes. Right. That’s exactly what my character needs to hear.” When they edit their manuscripts, they laugh at the funny parts. And cry at the sad parts. Sometimes they even talk to their characters.

Siri wrote 4 books and accumulated 153 rejections before signing with a p…

The SOS for PMS: Practical Help and Relief for Moms by Mary Byers

Christy here:

One day this week one of our managers brought a sales person around our department, and was introducing her to each one of us. The manager didn't say anything wrong to me, but it was what she said to my co-worker that bothered me. She mentioned to the salesperson that "Julia has been with us forever..." or something of that nature (Names have been changed to protect the innocent!) Anyway, it set something off inside of me. I thought, Humph. Even though I left for 2 and a half years, I came back! And I was here longer than HER! Thank the Lord, I didn't say this out loud, but I did mention something to Julia after the ladies left. However I admitted I was just being ultra sensitive and that I was being silly.

Am I always this sensitive??? you may be wondering. No. Three weeks out of the month, I'm normal. I'm happy to be a wife and mom. I'm thankful for my job, especially in these hard economic times. But that one, premenstrual week - WATCH …
